Requiem for the Little Green Machine

Total Loss. That is what the other driver's insurance adjuster said after visiting my crumpled little buggy. All I can do now is wait for the check, according to him. My husband never did follow up with our insurance company to see if that was the final word. I just left them a message telling them where the car is. Hopefully the adjuster will return the call. I doubt, however, that the verdict will be much different. The Kelly Blue Book value of a 1998 Ford Escort Wagon SE with nearly 95,000 miles on it is next to nothing, so my fear that the damage far exceeds the value of the car has been realized.

On the upside, my husband now has to walk EVERYWHERE! This is the most exercise he has gotten in a long while, and he needs it. He had his first heart attack at 46. Thankfully, it was minor and caught early. Since then, he has had several other blockages treated, the latest in May of this year. He was supposed to submit to a cardiac rehabilitation program, but never did citing time pressures. The lack of the car forces the issue.

While I am very happy that no one was hurt, and do recognize that that is the most important thing, I am still very angry and sad that my husband wrecked the car. She was a good buggy, that's for sure.

oh the agony of cars. we have a 98 jeep grand cherokee that is a money pit. every time it needs a repair we anguish over whether to fix it or just get rid of the thing. it's always, well maybe next time we'll replace it...
But hey, the walking thing... Good for him!

This is unpleasant.
I hope you get the checks soon though.
Meanwhile, Fall is here, leaves are changing, so at least it's a beautiful time to walk everywhere.

I know it doesn't seem like it now, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise, as your husband is now getting some exercise and improving his health.
Although I can imagine how annoyed you must be about your car.
My ex lent my car to his friend, it got broken into, and then abandoned and then smashed into, and then declared a write off! I was pretty angry with him as I had cherished it from brand spanking new.
Men hey!

Cars are a headache and a blessing, yes? I would like to smell a new car just once. Bing insists on buying used. She thinks new ones are a waster of money.

I want a NEW car!@

It's always sad to say goodbye to a car that you have loved, one in which you knew exactly how to reach your favorite radio station buttons without looking, one that had the worn spots where your hands rested on the wheel, one that was your own mobile office, one that was familiar and comfortable.

Maria -- I hear stories that some people in the world buy this thing called A New Car. I really do not know this New Car of which you speak. I think perhaps it is a made-up story.

But you're looking at the bright side, especially with the exercise.
